5 OUR EXPERTISE: HUMANITARIAN RESPONSE & RESILIeNCE A time of unprecedented hunger. The crisis in Ukraine. A mutating virus. Floods, drought and fierce storms caused by climate change. Small wonder HarperCollins settled on “permacrisis” as the word that best sums up 2022. But with each crisis, Plan International Canada mobilized teams to provide life-saving assistance to communities, from supporting families forced to flee their homes in Ukraine to distributing cash assistance and food vouchers in the countries hit hardest by the hunger crisis. 36 2022 Annual Report | DIGEST

24% of our FY22 program expenditures

We never wavered in our commitment to advancing children’s rights and equality for girls. We expanded our programming to further encompass development and humanitarian work. “We responded to multiple complex crises in 2022 that affected women and children,” says Jessica Capasso, director of emergency and humanitarian assistance at Plan International Canada. “The need for disaster relief will only grow. That’s why we’re evolving to become the number one organization to help girls facing disasters and crises.”

To deliver humanitarian assistance, we:

Work with communities to address urgent and longer-term needs of families in crisis. Initiate health and child-protection programs for children who are forced to flee their homes. Provide health, hygiene and support services to displaced families. Establish education-in-emergencies programs for children, especially girls.
