FUNDING PROPOSAL: SCHOOL FEEDING IN SIERRA LEONE

Hungry to Learn A daily school feeding program helps nourish minds and bodies.

THE SITUATION Children can’t learn if they’re hungry. Girls can’t thrive if they’re hungry. That’s the challenge for children who live in homes where they don’t have regular access to safe and nutritious food. It’s estimated that’s the situation for four out of five households in Sierra Leone. It didn’t always used to be that way. Climate change has decimated a once-thriving agriculture industry, forcing an overreliance on imported foods. The war in Ukraine and escalating shipping costs have led to serious food shortages. One-third of children under five have impaired growth due to inadequate nutrition, risking their health and ability to learn. Most households in the country spend over 75% of their income on food, and even then, 80% of families living in Sierra Leone cannot afford a healthy diet. One of the proven ways to fight this hunger crisis is school meals programs.

THE ASK Do you want to help more than 300,000 children in Sierra Leone access nutritious, home-grown school meals? DONATE NOW!

Led by The Power of One Foundation a number of our most generous donors have combined with the Sierra Leone government to match Canadian donations of up to $250,000 35x . This could unlock $9M to support critical school meals programs that fuel healthy bodies and minds.
